BILLERICAY STRIDERS 10K ROAD RACE SUNDAY 1st NOVEMBER 2009

THIS RACE IS NOW FULL – WE REGRET THAT NO MORE ENTRIES CAN BE ACCEPTED

RACE SPONSORS

We would like to thank Gabby & Simon Harris, Headlines Hairdressing, Essex & Suffolk Water,  Elete Electrolyte and Paul Lovewell of Physiotherapy in Stock for helping us in supporting the event.  We would also like to thank the Head Teacher and Caretaker of Brightside School for use of the school grounds for the finish area and the Manager and staff at Hannakins Farm Community Centre for providing an excellent Race Headquarters facility.

RACE LIMIT

The number of participants will be limited to 750.  This is the maximum number that we are confidently able to cope with to ensure safety on the roads. As always, you are advised to enter early.

If the number of race entries has reached 750 before race day, NO late entries will be taken on the day.   We will keep an updated list of entries on our website.

THE COURSE

It is a varied and interesting route which includes a mix of town and country.  There is one hill close to the start and a short gradual climb at 8k .  The course has been assessed for safety and the Police have been consulted.  We are hoping they will have staff available on the day to assist.  The race time of 9.45 am is to ensure that all runners are clear of Somerfield supermarket before 10am, when they open.  The course will be well marshalled.

A map of the course can be seen by clicking here.

The start line is adjacent to Hannakins Farm Community Centre where the Race Headquarters are sited.

Hazard Warning:  The Council have installed wooden bollards on the verge at knee-height at the corner of Rosebay and Queens Park Avenue (1k into the course).  We will mark these clearly but please be aware of these potential trip hazards.

RACE CHARITY – HAMELIN HOUSE

Billericay Striders are raising funds for Hamelin House in Billericay.   Hamelin House provides respite facilities for children with learning disabilities or who have severe sensory and physical impairments.  It is hoped that race participants will increase their entry fee by an optional £1 so that this worthwhile cause can continue to give the parents and children affected the support which they urgently need.  Read more about their good work http://www.hamelintrust.org.uk.

RESTRICTIONS

We are unable to accept children under the age of 15.  Unfortunately the route is not wheelchair-friendly so, with reluctance, we cannot accept wheelchair entrants.

To ensure a prompt production of race results, a time limit of 90 minutes has been introduced.

RESULTS

We will post the results of the race on our web site at www.10k.billericaystriders.com as soon as possible after the race.  There will be no paper-based results service.
